20 Mar Mark and Misty
“We know Angels is here to change the life of a child but it has changed ours as well. My husband, Mark, and I are currently fostering our second child. Our first was a little boy who came to us when he was five months old. His birth mom was young and got caught up with the wrong crowd and drugs were involved. Our little buddy was in our life for a year and a half and reunified with his mom right before his second birthday. It was a long, bumpy road for everyone but we’re proud and glad to report that they are doing well! He left our home one year ago and it seems like every day that passes, their life gets better and better. I talk to him and his mom 2-3 days a week. He is thriving and getting so big! There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t miss him. This amazing little boy and the experience we all went through has taught us how to appreciate life and the gifts and opportunities we are given.
“After he left us, we didn’t think we could foster again. Our hearts were broken. It didn’t take long to figure out that this is what we are meant to do. Pay it forward. These children need a healthy and happy home to thrive and we can provide that. About three months after our foster son left, we got the call. There was a six day old baby girl who was in the NICU, drug addicted and she needed a home. We didn’t know what to expect.
“The day we picked up our foster daughter she was only four pounds. When she cried, all we wanted to do was wrap her in our arms and hug her but she didn’t want to be touched. Her entire body would stiffen as if she were in pain. We felt so helpless. To see a newborn baby not want to be touched or cuddled was heart breaking. We made sure to keep the lights dim and the noise to a minimum. It was the least we could do to make this tiny baby comfortable.
“Now she’s nine months old and in the 90th percentile for height and weight. She’s more than made up for what she was lacking eight months ago. She’s the youngest one in her play group and the biggest! We’re so proud of how far she’s come. Now she rarely cries (except when she’s hungry!) and she loves to smile and most of all, loves to cuddle.
“Thank you Angels for giving us the opportunity to care for these amazing kids. Our life would not be the same without them and theirs would not be the same without you!”
