20 Mar Terra and Jeff
There is so much that goes into the beginning of each foster placement. Terra and Jeff, first time Angels foster parents, recently got to experience this first hand with the placement of baby Andrew. Terra picked up baby Andrew from the hospital. Andrew had injuries due to physical abuse. Terra was educated by hospital staff on his medicals needs and follow up. Terra and Jeff used the support of their Angels social worker, Sara, in getting all necessary insurance information and consents to be able to ensure that Andrew’s immediate medical needs were met.
Also within the first week, Andrew’s parents were contacting the foster family to arrange for the first visitation. Sara accompanied Terra to the Thursday Club Visitation Center to meet the parents for the first time. Despite fears and uncertainties about meeting the parents, Terra was pleasantly surprised at how well the visit went. Both parents were very appreciative of the quality of care Andrew was receiving in his Angels foster home. But most importantly during the first weeks of the placement, Terra and Jeff were getting to know baby Andrew. They learned his likes and dislikes, his different types of cries, and his budding personality.
Terra and Jeff’s two school-aged daughters are also adapting to having a new addition to the home. Angels is so appreciate for the commitment that this foster family is making to Andrew and for all the energy that goes into making the first weeks of a placement successful.
“It is really fun to have Andrew around. It makes us happy to hear his laughter. I like knowing that we’re helping a baby that needs us.”
– Terra and Jeff’s daughter, Ashley (age 6)
“In the beginning, you’re nervous, but it gets easier as you do it. Andrew is a lot of fun. I like to feed him, hold him and tickle him.”
– Terra and Jeff’s daughter, Sara (age 8)
